MiCA CASP Licence in Germany (BaFin)

A MiCA CASP licence in Germany via BaFin: top-tier credibility and the EU's largest market. The 12-month transitional window has already closed.

Germany is the blue-chip option. BaFin is among the most respected financial regulators in the world, and a German CASP authorisation carries weight with banks, institutional counterparties and the EU's single largest economy on the doorstep. For firms whose business depends on being trusted, that signal is the draw.

Germany moved early and structured. Under the Digitalisation of the Financial Markets Act (FinmadiG) and its Supervision of Crypto Markets Act (KMAG), BaFin became the competent authority, and Germany used a 12-month transitional period that closed on 31 December 2025. A simplified "fast-track" route (KMZÜV) was available to firms already regulated under prior German law — but only if they applied by 31 August 2025, with BaFin completing decisions by year-end. That fast-track window is now shut; new entrants apply for full CASP authorisation under the standard process (once the application is complete, BaFin has 40 working days to decide, after a 25-working-day completeness review first — MiCA Article 63).

A BaFin CASP licence passports across the EU, with minimum capital on MiCA's Annex IV classes and the Article 67 own-funds floor. Compare Germany's cost and substance profile in the CASP Jurisdiction Selector & Cost Estimator.

Why operators choose Germany: maximum regulatory credibility, the largest EU market, and strong banking access. What to weigh: BaFin is rigorous and the simplified transitional route is gone — Germany rewards firms that arrive with serious substance, capital and governance, not those looking for the fastest or cheapest path.
